Gearbox SettingsGolf MK2 Drag Build

Pick the gearbox first, then fine-tune it: each gear can only move about 10% either side of its stock ratio, and the final drive about 15%. Open Car Tuning → Gearbox in your garage to swap the box, clutch and both LSDs, then use Gearbox Configuration for the ratios. So the cpm 2 gearbox settings that matter most are which box you buy and how you lock the differentials; the sliders only polish that choice.

Where are the gearbox settings in CPM 2?

Car Tuning menu with Engine, Gearbox, Suspension and Maintenance tiles above a bar showing weight 1078 kg, 4 gears and automatic transmission
The bar under the tiles tells you how many gears the current box has and whether it is automatic.

In the garage, open Car Tuning and tap Gearbox. Before you go in, read the bar at the bottom of the Car Tuning screen. It shows the car's weight, the number of gears and the transmission type. On this Golf MK2 it reads 1078 KG, 4 gears, Automatic, which tells you a 4-speed automatic is fitted.

Inside, the Gearbox screen has four slots:

SlotWhat it holds
GearboxThe transmission itself, with its weight and torque endurance
ClutchThe clutch plate and its torque limit in NM
Front LSDFront differential
Rear LSDRear differential

The Gearbox Configuration button at the bottom is where the ratio sliders live.

Which gearbox should you buy in CPM 2?

Gearbox market listing 7 DSG/S, 7G Tronic Plus, 8L90, 10L80, 10R60 and 10R80 with weights and cash prices
Every box here shows 100,000 km max mileage and unlimited endurance, so price and gear count are the real differences.

Buy a box marked Compatible for your car, then compare gear count and weight, because endurance does not separate them. On the Golf's market list every gearbox showed 100,000 KM max mileage and ∞ NM endurance. That means the gearbox is not the part that limits your torque; the clutch is.

Prices seen in that market, all in cash:

GearboxTypeWeightPrice
41TEA/T FWD77.0 kg800
42RLEA/T 4WD72.0 kg1,200
65RFEA/T 4WD85.0 kg4,000
8L90A/T 4WD85.0 kg7,000
10L80A/T 4WD90.0 kg8,000
10R60A/T 4WD95.0 kg9,000
10R80A/T 4WD92.0 kg9,000
7 DSG/SDCT 4WD92.0 kg14,000
7G Tronic PlusA/T 4WD95.0 kg18,000
850REA/T 4WD87.0 kg18,000

The expensive box is not automatically the fast one. The 2136 HP Golf build in the video above runs the 42RLE, a 1,200 cash 4-speed, and it is also the lightest 4WD box on that list. If money is tight, read cpm 2 how to make money before buying parts, since a full drag build costs far more in engine parts than in gearboxes.

What are the CPM 2 gear ratio limits?

42RLE detail panel showing gear ratios 2.84, 1.57, 1, 0.69 and final drive 4.1 with minimum and maximum values
Tap a gearbox in the market to see its stock ratios and the min and max each slider allows.

Tap any gearbox in the market before buying it: the right-hand panel lists its stock ratios with a minimum and maximum for each one. The 42RLE panel reads:

GearStockMinMax
1st2.842.5563.124
2nd1.571.4131.727
3rd1.000.901.10
4th0.690.6210.759
Final drive4.103.4854.715

Do the math and every gear is limited to 10% either way, while the final drive gets 15%. So a gearbox cannot be turned into a completely different one with the sliders. If a box's stock 1st gear is far from what you want, buy a different box instead of fighting the slider.

Gear charts shared online with numbers like a 1.15 first gear or a 5.00 final drive only work on a gearbox whose stock ratios sit close to those values. Check the min and max in the market panel first; if the number you want is outside them, that chart was made for another box.

Change one gear at a time

Record the stock values before touching anything. Shorter gearing usually helps acceleration and longer gearing helps top speed, so after each change take the car to a straight road and see whether it pulls better or runs out of revs. Move only the gear that feels wrong instead of sliding everything at once.

What clutch and LSD should a drag car use in CPM 2?

Gearbox screen with 42RLE A/T 4WD, VR38 Forgespeed Clutch rated 2000 NM and LSD Locked on both front and rear
The Golf drag build: 42RLE box, 2000 NM clutch and both LSDs locked.

For a high-power drag build, fit a clutch rated above your engine torque and lock both differentials. The Golf MK2 setup shows:

  1. Gearbox: 42RLE (A/T 4WD), 72.0 kg, condition 100%.
  2. Clutch: VR38 Forgespeed Clutch, 8.5 kg, rated 2000 NM, condition 99%.
  3. Front LSD: LSD Locked, 18.0 kg, condition 100%.
  4. Rear LSD: LSD Locked, 22.0 kg, condition 100%.

You'll know it is set when all four slots show green condition bars and the clutch reads 2000 NM. The creator's one spoken tip in that video is to keep your parts at 95% condition or higher, so repair worn parts in Maintenance before a run.

Locked LSD: for 4WD drag builds

Both axles locked puts power to every wheel evenly, which is what this 4WD Golf uses for the drag strip.

LSD 2 WAY: for a rear-drive drag car

The Kartal build in cpm 2 tuning uses a CIMA 7 (A/T RWD) gearbox with LSD 2 WAY and leaves the configuration at standard. Its description says it locks under both acceleration and braking, which helps traction but makes slow, tight turns harder. Pick this one if your car is rear-drive and you also drive it around the city.

What to do after the gearbox

With the box, clutch and LSDs set, the power side comes next. Compare engines and parts in cpm 2 best engine, then follow the full suspension, tire and fuel steps in cpm 2 tuning. Drag races are also one of the coin routes in cpm 2 how to get coins, so a finished drag car pays for the next one.
